Whew, okay!

I have moved into the new apartment I own, yay! Now I have properly room for cat trees, and a new bigger cat tree was the first thing I bought and carried into the empty apartment. I had the big moving day 2,5 weeks ago so I've had some time to get used to everything. I emptied the last boxes yesterday, I had a little bit of a crisis with the new wardrobe but let me tell you. I bought TWO cheap plastic boxes and it fixed EVERYTHING. It allowed me to organize everything better and save room = boom all good now.

My big gripe is the shower cubicle! God it is so ass. The floor keeps flooding and the doors keep falling off the rails. As soon as I can afford it, I'm getting rid of this and buying a new one.

Speaking of affording, I'm still missing some essential furniture, namely balcony seats and little table, a shelf for the living room, and shelves for the laundry. I'm supposed to go to another town/city the 1st of June and they have IKEA so I know where I'll be visiting. My wallet is not gonna like it though.

And the reason I'm going to that city is because I'm helping out a certain lesbian. We're gonna be in the same town for the summer. I wonder if we'll be dating some day?

Oh, I am also happy I got to set up my weirdo shelf xD It has two pieces of art on it, of Kave and Päivätär, as well as a forest reindeer horn and a magic wand made of forest reindeer horn ^^''' I have a weird liking of forest reindeer.

So uhhh Eurovision happened. I felt sooooo meh about the whole thing because last year's competition was mega ass. And I kept getting Youtube ads of the Israeli artist saying in Finnish, vote for me. It's so annoying and I'm not even sure if that's allowed, nobody else makes such ads for their songs. I was, however, enamoured with Erika Vikman's stage performance in ICH KOMME, holy moly I got the feeling like yeah I am a lesbian alright... Spain's ESA DIVA was also great and gave me same feelings! My favourite for the victor would've been Estonia. It felt so wholesome, he just sang about coffee. I want more coffee songs for humanity. (Also Joostice.) While I would never wish a victory for a ballad in ESC, I'm not so mad at Austria's win because the artist has real talent and an amazing singing voice. I'm also happy for young queer performants successes this and last year.

They have made some fixes (like not making me look at Martin Österdahl's face), which is an improvement sure, but the competition is not fully saved by any means.

That's all worth mentioning I can think of right now.

The Friday Five for 14 March 2025

Answers for The Friday Five for 14 March 2025.

1. How far back can you trace your family tree?

From memory, like only to my grandparents or great-grandparents ^^''' But as far as genealogy is concerned, I think my ancestors have been traced back to somewhere around the 1500s at least.

2. What is the most interesting (or strange) thing you've heard about one of your relatives?
I have a shitton of relatives, many of them have strange things but they're not that interesting. But I keep thinking back to my great-great-something-grandpa. He was born early only after 6 months. He was so tiny, they kept him in a tobacco box that was filled with sheep wool, and fed him milk by dripping it from the wool. He made it, of course since I am here, it's kind of amazing, on the countryside, without modern medicine.

3. How do you feel about legacy names like John Henry Smith IV or naming children after other relatives?
From the perspective of tradition, naming children after ancestors is beautiful. It comes from the idea that ancestors' names, and through them, the ancestors themselves, kept living on in the family. I wouldn't name anyone with a number though, like in the example "the Fourth". Nor give my child my own name, cultures are different so I feel like here if you do that it just makes you look like a narcissist.

4. Would you consider yourself and/or your family to be traditional?
Totally not. And we have a lot of traditions in the family. I am going to be building my life in the way of bringing in more folklore tradition. But some tradition is also ass, like if it's holding back progression. I have many Laestadian relatives. I'm sure they think they are very traditional, holding onto the "true traditions" or whatever. And to me, Christianity is not traditional at all so I'd say their "true traditions" are fake traditions actually. There are many ways to look at this! When does your "traditional" start? For many people, it's like the 1950s. For someone else, it's Christianity because "it's been here for 800 years!". And I'd say: "Only 800? First of all, it's only like 500-600 years at most to my ancestors, plus in the terms of time, that's like nothing! There are older traditions"

5. What is one tradition you have passed on to your children and/or plan to pass on to them?
I do not plan to have children. If I ever have any nieces or nephews though, I'd like to sing traditional myths to them.

Cats

About a month ago, I took in two girl cats, ages 6 and 9, to foster. I have now been given the ok that I can adopt them.

6-year-old is Noki (Finnish for "soot"), a black cat obviously. She is slender and shy, and in the beginning, she spent most of her time in my closet. However, she is crazy about pets and will come to push her head on your hands, legs, anywhere, more more more pets. She had not been spayed so I had to take her to the vet. She hated it and hated the cone to prevent her from licking the wound. I broke the rules by taking the cone off early, but she was very scared and stressed out over it and even peed on my bed... After this, she has become braver and more social. A true sweetheart!

9-year-old is Näpsä (Finnish for "nifty"), a grey cat. She is a fat ball and much more social, already coming to get to know me on her second day at my place. She meows a lot and demands what she wants, like if she wants to be let on the balcony, she will let you know. A few days ago, weird things started happening as someone was puking water and peeing on the couch. Yesterday, I realized it was Näpsä, and she seemed to have problem with peeing. I took her to the vet urgent care immediately in case it was a life threatening case of blockage in the urinary tract. Fortunately that was not the case, and she had an ordinary case of urinary tract infection. Her peeing problems were caused by her feeling pain. She has now been prescribed with pain meds.

The Ship Wars Have Emerged

It was Wanderer's birthday on the 3rd and Sethos appeared in Wanderer's bday art, asking to give him a traditional desert hairstyle. Some people who ship Wanderer with Kazuha or Childe have NOT taken this well.

I've seen edits of both replacing Sethos in that image with Kazuha or Childe. It confuses me so much.

I ask in my head, why. Why would you make such an edit. Why would Kazuha give Wanderer a traditional desert hairstyle? Why would Childe give Wanderer a traditional desert hairstyle?

It kind of breaks my brain, there is nothing wrong with making edits of course and it hurts no one, I'm just confused as to why would you make that edit when it makes zero sense.

I don't think they even know that that is not just some random hairstyle but specific to Sethos's culture. Which is just ignorant about the lore more than anything else.

I just wanted to express how brainless those edits seem to me from the lore perspective. But I don't want to attack people so I just express this here on my blog.

27.12.2024

I had no mood for Christmas this year. However, I got just absolutely wonderful xmas gifts <3

I got 2 dl size cups, so smaller than the average mug = great for coffee and tea! I also got plenty of tea :] I got a lovely pin depicting Finnish traditional clothing my friends had found at a recycling center. It's obviously now on my ita bag. Same friend made handicrafts for me with the looped square ⌘ symbol. Another friend made me cat paw half gloves. I got long (over the knee) knitted wool rainbow socks. Friend got me Scaramouche art and poster :') I got a lot of chocolate and other snacks too, of course. I got flavoured syrup. More warm clothes. Stickers, keychain, a tiny plushie... And more but I can't remember right now (and can't check because I'm at work, booooo).

I just felt so touched by the presents, and so impressed by my friends' handicraft skills! It kind of encouraged me to get back into embroidery, so I dug up my cross stitch project that's been left untouched for years.

365 Questions for 2024: Week 50

Questions from 365 Questions for 2024.

9 DEC: International Anti-Corruption Day: What size of a bribe would persuade you to do something illegal?

- Most likely it's never worth it.

10 DEC: Nobel Prize Day: Who in your life deserves a Nobel Prize and for what?
- We all deserve the Nobel Prize of Having To Deal With This Shit in this economy.

11 DEC: Stretching Day: How often do you stretch?
- Casually like a cat, everyday. Like when waking up or after a long drive.

12 DEC: Gingerbread House Day: Have you ever made a gingerbread house?
- I think I participated in making one with my friend, but tbh most of it was done by her.

13 DEC: Day of the Horse: Would you like to die in the saddle?
- No???

14 DEC: Yoga Day: Do you like yoga?
- I've never done it. It's supposed to be relaxing I guess? But also a religious practice. Regardless of the different spiritual meanings given to meditation around the world, it has been seen as something beneficial to practice for the body and mind. So I'm not sure about yoga, but meditation at least is something I'd like to get into one day.

15 DEC: Wear Your Pearls Day: Do you own any pearls?
- Nope.

The Friday Five for 13 December 2024

1. What did you want to be when you grew up?
- Illustrator

2. Did you follow through? If not, what happened?

- Hell no. First of all, I'm not good enough at drawing. Second, I like financial stability and having a job that pays.

3. Is your life turning out the way you thought it would when you were a kid? If not, is it better or worse?
- Not exactly like I thought, but it's not like I had many expectations either.

4. Paradoxes aside, if you could time-travel back to when you were 10 years old, what would you tell your 10-year-old self?
- Nothing. I had a good time, a good childhood. Not perfect, no one's life is, but I had a good time in general. It is the me of now that still has to figure out what the hell I'm going to do in life, how to be a grownup.

5. Do you think the child you were, would like the adult you've become?
- Not sure... I think actually, yes. I have work, and not just any work, but work with computers. I liked that stuff as a kid too.

Picks a Fruits Basket icon because I loved that manga as a kid.

Better and Worse

Things get better for me, and my health gets better.

But I still sometimes get these fits of exhaustion and self-hatred, like now, that are triggered by completely benign things. It's a bit tiresome.

Gaming and In the News

I have had long Civ 6 playing sessions. I have been able to gain the Culture and Science victories in the Emperor difficulty. I also got into Miitopia on Switch again! I made new Miis for my current ship (which is Sethoscara). Maybe I can share some pictures later. Bottom line, Miitopia is so much fun, how could I have forgotten!

As for MMORPGs, a friend has been making me play classic World of Warcraft. I've never actually played it before. He keeps asking how I like it; well it's exactly like any other MMORPG. I don't even have anything to say about it, if you like MMORPGs you like it and if not, you won't. And my opinion on MMORPGs is and has always been neutral, so. It's an okay game. I have not much more to say.

However, I ended up making a new character on FFXIV last night. It has more fun character making possibilities, I guess? Let's see how far I can take it.

In the News

I wish and hope, a better future for Syria. I have 0 connection to this place but have been very much following the events the past few days. If only they can have a prosperous future starting now....

Also in the news: Tuoreet luvut naimisiinmenosta julki: Koko instituution asema vaarassa (New numbers on marriage are public: The position of the whole institution is at stake). Only about half of people now get married before they turn 50, and even after that the numbers don't get much better. Most marriages now are also civil marriages (non-religious procedures).

It's very good? I often speak about wishing to marry one day, but... My view on marriage is that it is supposed to be an agreement between the participants, and is nice to celebrate with friends and family. I dislike it being seen as some kind of a... family unit that holds up whole society, or god-sent, or such. Historically, what is a marriage? It is a relationship that has been publically announced: we are together. And people have celebrated that. So much bad has been attached to it later on, patriarchal systems of wealth ownership, religious control, heteronormative anything. So in a way, I am rooting for the "destruction" of marriage; and its rebirth as something closer to what it was originally supposed to be. Even cohabitation with a promise of loyalty to each other is closer to the "original" concept of marriage as opposed to whatever "Women own no property and are baby making machines" plus "hetero family units are the blocks that hold up the Fatherland" bullshit we've had to deal with for literal millenia.

But the revolution on marriage already started decades ago, when we decided it was supposed to be about love. It wasn't even about love for a long time but financial benefits, families' power dynamics, ensuring of heirs... It's always been funny to me how some blame gay people for destroying marriage. Wasn't it straight people who decided it was about love who destroyed it already in its patriarchal-religious
sense? And the patriarchal societies that destroyed the concept of marriage that came before them.

365 Questions for 2024: Week 48

Questions from 365 Questions for 2024.

25 NOV: International Hat Day: Do you have a favorite hat?
- I knitted myself a kitty ear winter hat and I like it very much. But I also have a banger bucket hat.

26 NOV: Milk Day. Milk. Yay or nay?
- Nay! Tastes bad. Cheese, ice cream etc is good tho.

27 NOV: Slinky Day: Do you have a childhood toy you’ve kept into adulthood?
- Like a crapton. Did you think I was going to abandon my Winx Club doll collection?

28 NOV: Thanksgiving: What are you thankful for?

30 NOV: Personal Space Day: What do you do when someone invades your personal space?

The Friday Five for 22 November 2024

1. What is your favorite childhood memory?
- Any relaxed, sunny summer morning watching cartoons and then going out to play with a friend. I also remember getting much joy from website making.

2. If you could be reincarnated as anything besides human, who would you want to be?
- I'd rather not be alive at all. Maybe being some kind of moss would be nice. Or crab, I heard they are the winners of evolution.

3. If you had to start your life all over, what are three things you would change?
- If I had all the knowledge of my current life, then clearly I could get much better education since I already know plenty. I would also aim at non-fiction or folk poem book writing, and time spared from already knowing stuff from my old life could be spent on things like learning more art.

4. If you had to forget everything in your life, except one thing, what would it be?
- It's kind of conditional on when this would happen. If it happened after I got married, I'd choose not to forget my spouse. Right now? I am not quite sure, but if I can be more abstract, maybe the joy I felt as a kid.

5. Do you have a lucky charm?
- I don't, but I actually thought about this this week. I have a Genshin Wanderer omamori. I thought if I had a car, maybe I would hang it up there as a good luck charm.

Unplanned hiatus

Again, I accidentally went on an unplanned hiatus. I have not visited this website at all for over a month.

The reason is that I have been very tired. Physically tired due to iron deficiency anemia, not helped by anxiety and depression. Last week, I had a week long sick leave due to this tiredness. I have dropped a lot of stuff for x amount of time because I am too tired. I have not read anything here because I am too tired.

Good news is, after this week, my life should become better. I will get rid of my a-hole coworker, and I also got a stable position here so I will have stable income in the future. I can start planning for the future for real this time. The local queer advocacy group also started organizing coffee nights, which is something I've definitely needed.

I have played a lot of video games recently, mainly Civ 6 (I got addicted AGAIN) and Valheim.

Matters tend to solve themselves (in the lesbian way)

I almost wasn't able to go on a date due to transportation issues (they live 2h drive from me) but in the end, everything turned out well and I was able to celebrate my friend's bday on Saturday and then go on a date on Sunday.
